I don't feel the campground was nearly as bad as some of the previous reviews indicated. We stayed here with a small group. The check-in and staff were friendly and helpful, the store and facilities clean and well-maintained. Our site was extremely level. The only two complaints were that our sites were fairly near the road and we had quite a bit of road noise. Also, there was one group next to us who let their teenage kids stay up until about 2:00am and they were riding around on golf carts and chopping firewood. Security drove around all day. It would have been nice if someone took a ride around at night and silenced this crowd. Regarding Seasonal, in my opinion the Seasonal population there is rather small compared to most Eastern PA campgrounds. It seemed to be mostly transients. On the gun club . . it is a really nice club and within walking distance. The club offers a fairly decent open kitchen most weekdays and Sunday morning. They also have sporting clays on Sunday starting at 9:00am so not especially early and the clays course sounded like it started fairly far away. The gunfire was distant and muffled by the woods. If you are a shooter, by all means take a shotgun along. You can walk to the club from the campground. It is only about 200 yards down the hill.

In my opinion, this is one of the nicest facilities in the PA State Park system. An extremely nice campground, many great sites, fantastic hiking trails and activities, and a pretty lake. While we don't have pets, many of our friends do and (as noted ina prior review) the ridiculous State Park pet rules makes camping at a PA State Park with a pet pretty restrictive and, realistically, not worth it. They have very strange and arbitrary pet rules.

We stayed here over Memorial Day weekend and were required to supply a non-refundable full payment for the required 3 day stay. Considering it was the holiday, this didn't surprise me. However, when we arrived and throughout the weekend, the campground was never more then 2/3s full. The sites were just okay. In the area we were in they were all grass and had it not been for some former camper who had dug a hole for the left rear tires we would have had a bear of a time getting level. Our electric hookup was fine but the water was difficult to find and far at the back of the site at ground level. There was a group of seasonals at the bottom of the hill who yelled at everyone to slow down (whether they were driving fast or not) yet they had a 40' Motorhome with an outside TV that we all got to hear for the entire weekend whether we wanted to or not. Overall, the campground either had been nice once and was deteriorating or was being fixed up. It was hard to tell. If it is the latter, they have a lot of work to do.

Shady Grove is now under new ownership. In talking to folks who have camped here in the past and reading older reviews here, it is very apparent that the new owners are investing heavily in improvements all over the campground. The big rig sights were laser level with new and enormous (and buried) cement retaining walls installed. The roads have all been recently stoned, and have drainage swales and big drainage pipes built in. The swales make for some pretty big bumps here and there, but we pulled in during a vicious rain storm and the roads were not flooded or muddy at all. All hook-up hardware was brand new, and there are many new sights being built and the old ones that haven't been fixed up yet are scheduled to be. I would suspect if they keep up the work they have done so far that there won't be a leveling block seen in the place. There are a lot of seasonals but plenty of transients as well. I can say this campground is now far better then what the older reviews say and I recommend staying there. It did look like they were building a wi-fi infrastructure as well though I could not get a signal.

This was our second year in a row in a waterfront site at Tom's Cove Park. For the second year in a row, we had a ball. The sunrise views over Assateague Island just don't get any better. The only thing really keeping me from giving this park a 10 is the lack of internet access. Not that I really missed the e-hubbub but it would be nice to have over an extended stay. Otherwise the park and the folks that run it are perfect.

We did a quick overnight here on our way home from Iowa. We were on I-80 and pulled into the campground fairly late. Bob opened up the office and quickly got us checked into a level, pull-through site with a Good Sam discount. We were parked, hooked up, showered, and sleeping in no time. I looked around a bit in the morning and the campground was very nice. I discovered there was a great WiFi connection though I didn't remember seeing that in the ad. It was WiFi for the campground though.

We stopped here for a quick overnight on our way West through PA. The park was perfect for this and would be great for a couple of days as well. They had a fishing pond, pool, and a big air pillow that was really popular. The store was nice, check-in was relatively fast and we had an escort to our site. The only complaint was that the pull through sites (which nearly all of them were) could have been a bit more level. They have all been back-hoed or bull-dozed so there really isn't a reason for them not to be a bit more flat and a few minutes at each site with a piece of equipment would fix this. Probably bothered us more because we were just overnighting. Still, a nice, clean, reasonably priced campground.

We over-nighted here on our way West. It was a nice little campground. The sites were packed in a bit tight but for a quick over-night it was fine. There seemed to be a lot of activities including a nightly movie (at least on weekends) projected on a big barn there. The volume was not obtrusive. While I wouldn't want to spend a weekend there there were those that were doing just that. Nothing wrong with it other then it looked like sort of a boring place to stay.

I noticed an older review from 2005 that was not so stellar though, aside from this one there is one from last year that is much better. It should be noted that the campground is under new ownership since last April. I never saw this campground before but based on the old review I'd have to say that the new owners have done a fantastic job! This great little campground was one of the neatest, cleanest little facilities we've been too. Everything looked new. The sites were all either level stone for the parking areas or clean red mulch in the non-parking areas. The picnic tables were clean and well kept, and were all tilted on end to allow debris to slide off. The fire pit was up on a pile of stone and well aerated and featured a cover. The site was not advertised as having cable but it certainly did. All sites were shaded. They have a great horseshoe pit, swimming pool, a relatively new and well-stocked camp store, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Really a great little gem in hidden in the Poconos.

While I believe this campground has only recently become a KOA, it has been around for a long time. My in-laws had a brochure from 1971 when rates were $3.50/night. They got a laugh in the office when I complained that the rate was higher then the brochure and showed them my relic. It is important to note that the correct name is Twin Grove Park KOA. Twin Grove Park was originally a local amusement park, and the campground came along later preserving some of the rides and adding newer ones later. The staff was very friendly (and obviously had a good sense of humor) and check-in was speedy. The camp store was well-stocked. The restaurant was adequate. Not 5 start cuisine but good enough if you are looking for a quick meal. We had breakfast there. The pool was nice though with temperatures in the mid-90s very crowded. In addition to the on-site restaurant there is also an ice cream parlor, the amusement park (6 or 8 rides including an old-style carousel), mini golf, and on Saturday night there was also live music. A very good Country band. This was their western weekend so the band fit the theme. They also had horses, rodeo activities, pony rides, etc. In walking around I noticed tennis, basketball, and shuffleboard courts as well. Shade for TTs and motorhomes is at a premium. There are a bunch of shaded tent sites. Our groups only complaints were the lack of shade and lack of grass. Nearly the whole campground is stone, though it is very well maintained and the sites very level. Finally, Swatara State Park is right across the street and there is a semi-improved road that takes you back to the the Swatara Park multi-use rail trail which features a beautiful walk along Swatara creek. The Appalachian Trail runs just on the other side of the creek and, in fact, there were a couple of AT'ers at the restaurant when we were there Saturday morning.

We had a seasonal site for years at Seashore when I was a kid. The campground was great then and even better now. The campstore/office is superb. Check-in was a snap. This was a pre-season visit and the guard shack had a sign that simply said "Welcome. Pick a site and come to the office in the morning". We had a reservation and an assigned site that I didn't particularly care for so we moved to another one. We had arrived around 9:30pm so I went to the office in the morning and it was no problem to stay on the sight we picked. One thing that is not different from my childhood is that the "transient" sites are near the front, and kind of close together. If you want a more peaceful camping experience you may want to drive around the park a bit before picking a site. There are some great wooded sites deeper into the campground.

This campground was great. The other reviews here are spot-on regarding the sites and the facilities. The hostess was neat to talk with. She takes running the campground very seriously. She makes sure guests and their visitors are considerate of their neighbors. You get the idea very quickly that if you were to throw a big party late into the night with a lot of noise that you would be asked to leave. This is a beautiful location as well. Just a few minutes drive from Syline Drive. No problems with reservations here. I called, and sent a check and she had my reservation slip there when we arrived.

Harrisburg East is in rather a strange location. It is located right off of I-283 just North of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Interchange for Harrisburg East. Despite that, the campground is very nice. Our stay was early in the year but the grounds were clean, and the sites very well maintained. It is a small campground and there is quite a bit of noise from the adjacent highway but it sits above it a bit so it isn't too bad. I was shocked at the amount of seasonal campers. Not because the campground was bad, but in the entire State of Pennsylvania it is not the place I would have picked to have a seasonal site. Regardless, it is a very nice, clean, safe campground. I only rated an 8 because of the highway noise.
